Windswept

Windswept

A moving snapshot of my art photography series “Windswept”.  I absolutely loved shooting this series and it was, like many of my personal creative projects an ongoing thing that played at least some part in my other shoots.  I found that the gentle movement and expression, softened the subject for my shoot and loosened them up when the serious shooting started.  Let go, relax is how these images roll.

Rise up

So as some of you may know, I have recently enrolled into Adelaides CCP (Creative Centre for Photography) to to work towards some professional development, creative inspiration and to solidify the dedication to my passion with some ticks in boxes and a cert.  Along the way so far Ive met some amazing new people, which is another reason for going into studies.  With assessment last night, Ive just passed my first module in creative portfolio building.  Now time for some reflection and breathe time before I start my next module.  The next module I take will be darkroom specialisation and Im thoroughly looking forward to developing my skills here and going out to shoot more film!
Ive taken the time this morning to look through a recent shoot, (which Ive not had time to see properly until now) and have discovered some lovely new images towards ‘LUCID’.  As with all images from Lucid, each image is from one single exposure, no photoshop.  I love the results.   So I thought I’d share.

I feel Im going to print this large as there is so much happening in the shot that needs to be seen.  Continuing with the unearthly and spiritual notion of this series I think this image goes to a new level.  The complexity of what happens in between frames is coming together and giving us a motion picture story within a single image.  I hope you enjoy it for a few seconds (or minutes)

Gallery M Art prize 2016 Finalist

Just a quick blog post on a cold wet day while sitting in the studio wrapped up in a warm duffle coat!  Adelaide winter is on us, but warm news came in the form of an email from Gallery M saying that I had been selected from 160 entries as a finalist for the 2016 Art Prize.  Pretty stoked!

Come down south to Gallery M for the launch on Friday 5th August and see my piece on the walls along side the other finalists.  From 5pm-8pm.  Will be awesome to see you there.  The exhibition will be on display from 5th August through to 28th August at Gallery M

Congratulations to the other finalists, I can’t wait to meet you all (some of you I already know)

Gallery M is one of Adelaide’s most innovative visual arts spaces.  The gallery is operated by the Red House Group, an artist managed non-profit organisation that acts as a focus for art and cultural activities for all individuals and groups in the City of Marion council area and its surrounding region.

The digital image

I have been contemplating this week about the digital file, and how precious i am about it..
Just what if photographers treated a piece of work like other artists, an individual, one piece only, limited?

What if we deleted the JPEG or RAW file once the print was made? And that was it!

Would we feel differently about our finished piece, would it push our work in different directions? Would others feel differently about it if they knew it was truly one piece? It’s something I have and am still considering it for select pieces of work.

We all know photography’s downfall is also it’s greatest accomplishment, but that is still our choice, with a push of a button….

LUCID PORTRAIT

Taken from the first creative session in my new Adelaide CBD space on Grote street.

So, Ive just moved into a new Studio in the CBD as part of the renowned  Adelaide Art collective, Central Studios.  So to help me give it a work out.  Im aiming to make some new images towards an exhibition project Im working on at the moment.  LUCID PORTRAIT

Im building a body of work towards this project for an exhibition within the year. As yet I don’t have a venue for the exhibition, but I do have a few venues in mind Im thinking about for this.  With that said, I am always open for suggestions.

The pictures are art based images, and so far I have made the images as clothed and using natural materials.  I am now looking to work the series into nudes, I feel the simplicity of the human form will add heaps to the images. Im a believer in making your work different, so my style is very different to match.

The series promotes expression and has a very spiritual feel from another world, passing through a dream state.

I’ll be shooting the next images for the series in my studio space on Grote street (next to Central Market)

With photoshop so well used by most people these days, I just love switching off to it all and creating art in the old fashion way of doing crazy wild things while the camera is in my hands… Some things you can’t do after the picture is taken… and its nowhere near as fun!  All the images in the series are made with only one exposure.

Please enjoy this set from the series.  Prints will be available to purchase, and commissions accepted,  please get in touch for details

Forte, in concert at The Singing Gallery, McLaren Vale

So, moving pictures… aka Movies, Film or Video.

I dont shoot heaps of them, stills are my thing, but I do enjoy shooting them. I recently hooked up with local Adelaide singer songwriter, Forte, for a commission to shoot and produce some work for a short moving picture to promote his new Album, “Conduit” which launches on Friday 13th November at The Church of the Trinity Goodwood road, Adelaide

Go support a local artist and help build a bright future.

The footage for the promo was recorded at the lovely “Singing Gallery” in McLaren Vale, South Australia. The subdued and 100% beautiful lighting of the venue set the tone for a great gig, candle lights all around.

Check out some of the photographs made on the night.

As part of the promo campaign with Forte, we also photographed some amazing publicity work and at the top of the bill, the Album artwork for “Conduit” We had an amazing day shooting, covering the whole of Adelaide. We started by shooting the amazing vista looking out at Gulls rock on the corner of Maslins beach and Port Willunga beach. Then with the kind permission of the owners of the Fleurieu Pantry in Port Noarlunga and a little furniture re-arranging, we made some awesome location images that more than suited our theme (and had some great coffee and Chai tea.) after a few studio shots in my port Noarlunga studio we then headed to Bowden and Adelaide CBD to make some key images for the promo, shooting among the painted street art and graffiti!
What an amazing photoshoot!

Take a look at the finished results as you’ll find them being used by Forte right now, I think you will agree, looks pretty amazing and captures this larger than life local artist perfectly.

Cutting through the noise

The perfect images or moving pictures are such a powerful tool in marketing, they command our attention and tell the story of us, our products and services all within a few seconds.
Though with so much of it out there what and how we do it needs to be special to cut through the noise.

….my aim is to cut through this noise and create a distinct and stand alone vibration for all of my clients!
